Greg and Denise Yates opened Major Dads Military Surplus on 1 May 2009 with their first store located in the Winchester KY Peddlers Mall (near Lexington, KY).  Greg and Denise were married on 29 May 1999 and they have 2 wonderful children, Grissom who is 11 and Ainsley who is 8.  Denise serves as VP of Operations for the company.

Greg started his military career in 1980 when he enrolled in the ROTC program at Murray State University.  Greg was commissioned as a 2LT in May of 1982 where he served as a platoon leader in the 1174th Transportation Company, TN Army National Guard until Sep 1985.

In October of 1985, Greg started his active duty career serving as a Chemical Officer in Camp Casey Korea, FT Hood, TX, FT McClellan, AL and FT Knox, KY until March of 1996.  During his almost 11 years of active service, he served as Chemical Staff Officers in Armor and Mechanized Infantry Battalions and Brigades, Chemical One Station Unit Training Company Commander, Assistant Operations Officer for Readiness Group Knox and as an Aide-de-Camp for a Major General, Deputy Commanding General, 1st Army.

Greg completed his career while serving in the KY Army National Guard.  He served on the HQ STARC G-3 staff for about a year and then served as a full time federal technician performing duties as Battalion S-3/AO and as the State Safety Specialist.  In May of 2004, Greg retired as a Major after serving 24 years.

The Yates family live in Winchester, KY, where they man their HQ Store, located 927 Bypass Road Winchester, KY Next to Rural King and Woody’s Bar & Grill
